1. License and control operator
- A station license grant is required to transmit (§ 97.5).
- A control operator is required (§ 97.7); duties and privileges sit with that operator (§ 97.105).
- Station information / database: see § 97.23.
2. Station identification
Except for space/telecommand stations as provided in the rule, transmit your assigned call sign at the end of each communication and at least every 10 minutes during a communication (§ 97.119(a)). ID methods (CW, phone English, RTTY/data codes, image) are in § 97.119(b). Phonetics on phone are encouraged, not always required.
CallMinder is an aid for IC-7760 Voice TX memories — you remain the control operator responsible for ID.
3. Privileges by license class (Region 2)
Frequency privileges are in § 97.301 (tables by ITU region and operator class). Use the live table — do not rely on a secondary chart.
- Technician — VHF/UHF plus limited HF segments listed in § 97.301 for Technician. HF CW/data/phone segments are class-specific; verify before transmitting on HF.
- General — broader HF privileges than Technician; still less than Extra on some segments. See § 97.301 General rows.
- Amateur Extra — full amateur HF allocations authorized to Extra in § 97.301 Region 2 tables.
Band edges We do not copy frequency edges onto this page because they change; always open § 97.301 for the current table. Sharing and restrictions: § 97.303. Emission types: § 97.305.
4. Power limits (high level)
- Use the minimum power necessary (§ 97.313(a)).
- General ceiling: 1.5 kW PEP unless a lower limit applies (§ 97.313(b)).
- 200 W PEP on 30 m (10.10–10.15 MHz) for all; and on certain HF segments when the control operator is Novice or Technician (§ 97.313(c)).
- Other lower caps exist (60 m ERP limits, 2200 m / 630 m EIRP, SS emissions, geographic limits on 70 cm / 33 cm / 1.25 m, etc.) — read the full section.
